Hakimi catches 7kg worth of fish in 90 minutes!

The day started out with a long drive to the fishing lake. We talked in the car and Hakimi told me that the reason he wanted to learn how to fish was that it was his mother’s favourite pastime.

The person who would teach Hakimi how to fish was Mr. Mukhris. He has been fishing as a hobby for several years and he was the perfect person to help Hakimi.

When we arrived at the lake it was around 4pm. Mr. Mukhris taught Hakimi how to set up the fishing rod and how to prepare the bait. Then, it was a matter of waiting until the fish started biting.

We were extremely lucky. We managed to catch 3 fish in one and a half hours with the total weight being 7 kilograms. Hakimi was overjoyed. At 6, it started raining, so we decided to call it a day.  The entire drive back to Rumah Aman, he talked about how he caught the fish (with only a little help from Mr. Mukhris).

Before dropping him off, we decided to have a snack at McDonalds. We arrived at Rumah Aman around 7.30pm. I gave him his very own fishing rod as a present. He had his hands full as we walked into Rumah Aman. He insisted on keeping the fish he had caught, so we put them in a basket for him.

I hugged Hakimi and said bye as he told a group of his friends about his day. Hakimi learned to fish and we all had a lot of fun!

Taking Mr British to fish!

Hey. My name is Dyanna and I’m 14. I wanted to be a part of the ‘Promise Me’ campaign because I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life.

The pledge I have taken on is to teach a 10 year old boy, Asyraf Hakim, how to fish. He can speak English fluently and is known as ‘Mr. British’ in the house.

To fulfil my pledge, I plan on renting a boat and getting a professional who can navigate it. I’m going to get a friend of mine, Anwar, to teach him how to fish and after he learns I’ll surprise him with his very own fishing rod so he can go fishing whenever he wants.

I plan to let him go river fishing as well as sea fishing so that he gets to experience both types

Md. Asyraf Hakim bin Zul Abidin, 10 years old

Hakimi is best known for his ability to speak the English language fluently that he is nick named ‘Mr. British’ in the house. His wish is to learn fishing.
