Yesterday was one of the most memorable days of my life. What was meant to be an ordinary day turned out to be an amazing experience.
I picked Fadhil up from school at 12pm, after they played handball. We ate lunch, and he chose nasi lemak with a curry chicken drumstick and ice lemon tea. We offered him more, but he was a tad bit shy, and he politely declined, as he said that he wouldn’t be able to finish the food. Nevertheless, I insisted that he should try my favourite meal in the restaurant, which was the Mexican bun, and after having a small bite, he said he liked it.
I found out about the Helen O’ Grady Children’s Drama Academy in Taipan, Subang Jaya through a friend, and she gave me the number of Sue Lam, the director of the academy. She was extremely nice, and she agreed to let Fadhil join in the Saturday class for children ages 9 to 12.
However, Sue wasn’t in on Saturday, so we spoke to Jessy Wee, the principal of the academy. She was really friendly, and she made him feel accepted and comfortable by breaking the ice with him immediately.
The one hour class was conducted by Jessy, and there were around 20 students. Although Fadhil was shy at first, and he was rather intimidated by the students, his confidence level slowly grew, and in no time, he made a few friends!
There were many interesting activities in the class, for example, creating stories with a scenario, and confidence boosting activities. It was a wonderful class, and although I wasn’t participating in it, I enjoyed myself thoroughly by watching them act while taking pictures.
After the class, we thanked Jessy, and she was immensely generous, and decided not to charge us for the acting class. In fact, she asked Fadhil to join another session next Saturday, whereby he happily agreed!
We then went to Baskin Robbins, as it was nearby, and he initially picked the rainbow sorbet flavour, which I reckon, was due to its colourful and appealing appearance. We decided to let him sample it, and he scrunched up his face, as it was sour. In the end, he went for the chocolate, which I think was a rather safe choice.
It was an amazing day, and a remarkable experience. Although it was exhausting, it was perfect, and I wouldn’t mind doing it all over. The best part of the day was seeing Fadhil’s confidence grow, and seeing him act.
There are so many people who made this day a phenomenal event. I would like to thank all of you who helped me. Thank you for making this a special experience, and I am pleased to say that after all the agonizing of planning everything perfectly, everything went well.
The most important part was, by the end of the day, both of us were drained, but we had a blast, and it was extremely fulfilling and satisfying.
Here are some pictures of the memorable day, and a video of Fadhil and his friends acting.
