Sports training @ ELC

On Saturday 31st July, most of the boys from Rumah Aman came over to elc for a mixed training of football and handball, as well as the football game. Our own coach, Mr. Thomson came in to help train the boys.

The first half of the day was spent learning handball skills and the rules of the game, followed by a short break with refreshments. Then, we proceeded to learn football (we being the boys, and us after a while!).

At 4 o’clock, the planned time of the game, it was thundering and we thought that the game might have to be postponed, but the weather was eventually on our side and we managed to have a game, albeit with a slight drizzle. Some boys from our school came down and participated in the game and playing alongside the Rumah Aman boys they all showed amazing teamwork.

I think the day was a huge success. The boys learned skills in both handball and football and in the end, I think everyone had fun!

Thank you Mr Singh!!

On Friday the 30th, we all headed to Rumah Aman, where we were fortunate enough to have Mr. Santokh Singh (the amazing ex defender on the Malaysian football team) come in and talk to the boys and have a question & answer session.

I myself was lucky enough to get an autograph from the legend himself!

He then took the boys out onto the field where they had a game with our PE teacher Mr. Thomson who also came with us. The game was good fun and Arif managed to score the first goal of the game.

On the whole, I think it was a very successful day and it was very kind of Mr. Singh to have come down to talk to the boys. THANK YOU MR. SINGH!!!

Visit to Rumah Aman

Today, we visited Rumah Aman. I loved the atmosphere there, and everyone was so friendly and pleasant. The boys were a tad shy at first, but after a while they warmed up to us a bit and we had them talking about their favourite football teams, who they supported in the world cup and favourite colours (Arif, the boy whose pledge I have taken on supports Manchester United, like myselfJ, Spain and his favourite colours are black, white and red). It was all very sociable and they seem like really nice boys so I am looking forward to completing my pledge with them.

All given a chance to give back

Hey everyone, my name is Kaberi Dutta and I am a part of the TLC campaign – “Promise Me”.

I joined because I believe that we’re all given a chance to give back and I would like to make a difference in a child’s life. The child whose pledge I have taken on is called Muhammed Arif Bin Fauzi, and he is 11 years old.

Arif’s wish is to learn to play football, and aspires to become a great footballer. For something so simple, which is something that almost everyone can do, I’m glad I have the chance to fulfil his wish. I will complete the pledge by having him coached by Mr. Smith (an ex-Scottish Footballer and my PE teacher), and then hosting a football match with some students from elc and some from Rumah Aman, where he stays.

I know that at the very least this will be a fun experience for the both of us.

Md. Arif bin Fauzi

Arif aspires to become the greatest footballer in the world, and not surprisingly, loves football and will do anything to get all the latest information about the football world. His wish is to learn to play football.
